Anna Olson Cooks for Manila Audience, Promotes New Show with The Asian Food Channel

It was a culinary dream come true when I finally saw Anna Olson in the flesh!! I was invited at the Makati Shangri-La last July 15 for a dinner event set to introduce to the Philippine audience the newest lifestyle show on the Asian Food Channel entitled, “Inspired with Anna Olson“, hosted by the Canadian pastry chef and my favorite, Anna Olson.

I first saw Anna on her baking TV show, “Bake with Anna Olson“, where she makes beautiful desserts using different baking techniques and ingredients.  But for the first time, we’ll see a different Anna Olson in her new show! She will tour and explore around Asia and whip up local cuisines (not only desserts) straight from her kitchen.

“Inspired with Anna Olson” has a total of 10 episodes and will feature Anna’s unfforgettable culinary journey from street food stalls to high-end restaurants to learn the secrets behind Asia’s best loved signature dishes and then adapt the techniques, ingredients, and flavors to create her own inspired dishes gathered from her travels.

She gave us a live sneak peek of the show, by cooking side-by-side with her husband Chef Michael Olson at the Sage BeSpoke Grill at the Makati Shangri-La. The chef couple shared the same kitchen to prepare a full-course Asian-inspired treats for all the guests!

The Tocino del Cielo was adapted from our Pinoy leche flan. Anna recreated the local dessert using calamansi instead of dayap or key lime and served it along with some fruits and chantilly cream.

The main entree for me was a standout. I loved the steak; and the blueberry balsamic was just the perfect sauce for the meal! Anna’s mashed potato was unforgettable! It was so soft and creamy! I’m not a wine girl but I appreciate the different wines served to us for every course. Everyone in our table, we were consisted of bloggers and foodies by the way, all agreed and  shared the same thought about our dinner, it was fantastic! Thanks Chef Anna and Chef Michael, and AFC!

I was very lucky not only to see Anna and taste her cooking but also to meet and chat with her in person! I asked her a question about baking during the Q and A, and she graciously answered with a secret tip! I really love her to bits! 🙂

Inspired with Anna Olson” will premiere tomorrow on the Asian Food Channel at 9PM (SG), and 8PM (JKT/BKK). Anna will kickstart  her very first episode by having our very own Chef Rob Pengson as her guest. She will prepare Maple BBQ Chicken Wings, Salmon Tartare on Cassava Cakes, and Tocino del Cielo, inspired by the three local recipes from his restaurant – Squab Inasal, Kinilaw, and Mini Lime Creme Caramels.

In line with the program premiere, AFC will also stream ‘live’ the pilot episode of Inspired with Anna Olson on its website, www.asianfoodchannel.com/inspiredwithannaolson.

Be always inspired!
